Drug Name Propranolol

On 23 October 2008, the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) issued a press release stating its Committee for Medical Products for Human Use (CHMP) had concluded the benefits of Acomplia no longer outweighed its risks, and subsequently recommended the product be suspended from the UK market. Sanofi-Aventis later released a press statement stating the drug had been suspended. Approval of the drug was officially withdrawn by the EMEA on 16 January 2009.
Dr. Rhee and colleagues compared the identification of prediabetes, dysglycemia (diabetes or prediabetes), and diabetes by the recommended HbA1c-based screening with the conventional oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).

 

The study also revealed that the screening ability of HbA1c in non-Hispanic Americans differed by race. For example, researchers observed more false- negative results and fewer false-positive results in whites than blacks.
Topiramate (brand name Topamax) is an anticonvulsant (antiepilepsy) drug. It was originally produced by Ortho-McNeil Neurologics and Noramco, Inc., both divisions of Johnson & Johnson. It was discovered in 1979 by Bruce E. Maryanoff and Joseph F. Gardocki during their research work at McNeil Pharmaceutical.
