Title

Henze Casefile

Description

A devastating fire that destroyed all their belongings and took the lives of two of their children led the Henze family to the Edward Street Temporary Home and Day Nursery. Three of Fred and Sadie Henze’s children called the Edward Street Temporary Home and Day Nursery home on numerous occasions from the spring of 1915 to the winter of 1971, whenever their mother was hospitalized. Before the fire the family had survived on the father’s odd jobs and the mother’s job as a night matron at Union Station. The father had been laid off from his mill job for over a year and the family had gone through all of their savings. There are no records of the family and their association with the Edward Street Temporary Home and Day Nursery after 1917.
